My brother sent me a list of random thoughts. Here are some of the best and truest ones:
Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't
work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically
fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all
know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards
or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.
Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and
suddenly realize I had no idea what the fuck was going on when I first
saw it.
I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.
A recent study has shown that playing beer pong contributes to the
spread of mono and the flu. Yeah, if you suck at it.
I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to
have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and
sticks when they've invented the lighter?
Love it!

Rilo Kiley Portions For Foxes
I love this song so much. I was reading for Trial Advocacy and this came on. I was instantly in a better mood. Oh, Rilo Kiley, you rock.

Tragic
This is possibly one of the saddest things I have ever seen in my entire life. They (CNN and other news sources) that this woman's name is Neda (though this cannot be affirmed) and she was murdered by Basij forces (Iranian militia). The video is VERY graphic and terribly sad--beyond words. I pray that this conflict is over soon and that the people of Iran are heard by the government that seeks to oppress them. I hope the Iranian people prevail.

Music
Okay--I've been studying SO much lately that I've listened to music pretty much non-stop and my music phases are brief and fickle. The first phase I went through consisted of mainly Girl Talk with the occasional Kid Cudi or Kenna song thrown in the mix. Then it was on to Lonely Island, especially On a Boat and Like A Boss (I love those songs). And now I've securely settled into Animal Collective's newish (Jan. 2009) CD, Phoenix, and Jenny Lewis peppered by Fleet Foxes. So, here's a song I love right now:

Blame It On The Procrastination
This video cracks me up. Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Ron Howard and Samuel L. Jackson...it doesn't get any better than that line up for a hip hop music video. Perfection.

Distractions
These are the funny/ good/ interesting things I watched today to procrastinate:
Awesome song and video--can't get it out of my head.
Okay. That is all. Back to studying.
Watch 1976 Swine Flu PSA on CollegeHumor
So the Swine Flu comes from the 1970s--I knew it! The 70s were a cultural cesspit apparently it was disease-ridden cultural cesspit.Awesome song and video--can't get it out of my head.
Okay. That is all. Back to studying.

Procrastination at its best
So, I'm trying to avoid studying. Success thus far! :D
Anyways...I thought I'd share some words I'm fond of:
1. Gee: Used sarcastically. Best thing ever. People should use it more often like "Gee, thanks for the advice." Trend begin.
2. Ridic: My new favorite word. Use in instances where something is crazy or ridiculous--like: "That shit is ridic" It's awesome, trust me.
3. Humph. Great sound effect that should be used in real life and spelled out on the internet.
4. Nice. Appropriate one word response to things you find awesome. Great substitute for awesome or great or sweet!
Okay. Those are all I've got. But I do have a question: Why do some people use "haha" instead of "lol"? As someone who uses "haha" in a sarcastic manner online it can throw me off to read "haha" in a non-sarcastic manner. I think some of my friends are not actually laughing at my jokes. It hurts my feelings. (Just kidding) I've been trying to switch 'em up recently but I'm still struggling to incorporate "haha" into my non-sarcastic vocabulary. We'll see how that goes.
Peace.

In memory of my Sony Progessive Scan DVD Player
My Sony Progressive Scan DVD Player has died after 6(ish) years of dutiful service. It happened last night as I was trying to watch Role Models. It tried and tried and tried to read the disc but it failed. After trying 20 other discs I own with no success, I felt defeated.
Then, being the genius that I am, I decided to let it rest. Surely it would be running in the morning! No, it still didn't work. So then I decided that I would take a look and see if I could figure out what was wrong. So I removed the cover and peered into the depths- or rather shallows- of my DVD player, examining the various electronic parts that comprise its guts. I was about to set to task and really figure out what was wrong when I remembered: I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOW DVD PLAYERS WORK or about electronics in general.
So, I sat for a few minutes pondering what to do and I gave up. I put it back together and resigned myself to the fact that my DVD player has reached the end of its life. But now I'm DVD player-less and cannot play movies on my pretty television.
Sad times my friends, sad times.

Random Thoughts....
So, in the spirit of updating my blog I thought I'd share so fun tidbits that I've been randomly or not so randomly thinking about. I think they're fun/interesting/pertinent...but if you don't, then keep that shit to yourself.
1. I'm kinda irritated at my Civil Procedure book--not only because it's CivPro but because the book uses "she" instead of "him" for the third person when objectively describing the law. Maybe it's the fact that I grew up when books mainly were "sexist" or the fact that I studied Spanish, but I find it awkward and forced. Also, it's just as sexist to have the book refer to only "she" and never use "him" when describing the law (not in cases, of course). Maybe I'm being sexist against my own gender but it annoys me.
2. My DVD player literally just broke as I was writing this. I'm hoping if I let it rest a day it will come back to life but the outcome is looking bleak.
3. I went to my first Dodger's game tonight to celebrate Nicole's bday and I had a good time. Perhaps baseball is a better sport than I thought. I didn't hate it at all. Don't quote me on that though.
4. My musical obsession for the past couple of weeks has been Kid Cudi--especially "Day 'n' Night" and "The Sky Might Fall" but now I'm looking for a new fix. Music is pretty much heroin for me. I need something new to get attached to until I need my next fix. So, if you have any suggestions--throw 'em my way.
5. I really want to go to a concert. Specifically, I want to go to Coachella...but it starts tomorrow (Friday). Boo. If anyone has an extra ticket...I'll come with you! :D
6. My new favorite site is Twitter--I've been on it for a while but it's no good unless your friends actually use it too--so thanks for all of you who have decided to use Twitter. For all of you who don't, start! And follow me! Just look for kayleighdarling.
7. New Shows I wish I had time to watch/ Some I do:
Parks and Recreation on NBC--it had some good moments--I'm excited to see where it goes
Southland--yeah, the reason I watched the first episode was because Ryan from the OC is there--but it's a good show--promise--give it a try!
The Unusuals on ABC--looks interesting but I haven't watched it yet
Okay I think that about wraps it up. Hopefully I post something else soon.
Peace.

Neglect
So, I have more than done my fair share to neglect this blog. It sits here day after day and I have nothing to write. Sometimes inspiration comes to me but I never seem to get on here and post anything. I know I've said it may times before, but hopefully this time I can try to actually update this on a regular basis. :D
